Indeed, but that would require everyone to be at the same CVS state, with 
pristine sources (i.e., no local modifications).

Maybe it's feasible, I don't know. I think the idea of providing a 
checkout via tarball has a greater chance of success. (not to mention a 
better compression ratio)
