Because KDE has an history. When KDE started to have translations, gettext had
no plural forms and Qt had not any translation format either.

Until somebody writes a patch for more recent versions of gettext?
(There is still the problem that gettext has no context handling, so a patch
will still be needed.)

I am not sure to understand this question. Scripty helps the translators by
doing routine tasks.
