Feel free to take a look at kdelibs/kdeui/TODO.xmlgui - the part under "More long term".
kedittoolbar only does what the framework lets it do. To improve it we need to
rework the actual xmlgui framework as explained in that file. Not that simple, heh?

Patches welcome - bugs.kde.org says "it's unusable" too, but saying
the same here won't change things until you (not you personally, but all you 
involved in this thread) start actually fixing things.
