That was me:

The QNetworkProtocol implementations on KIO are a neat trick, because they 
require almost no change to the Qt application using them.
QFileDialog is able to browse filesystems with capability to list dirs out of 
the box and QUrlOperator can handle async data transfer for QUrl targets.
