Let me summarize the tests that have been done in this thread just so far:

gcc version OS arch result

2.95.3 Solaris SPARC ok ([ade])
2.95.4 FBSD x86 ok ([ade])
2.96 Linux x86 bad ([ade])
2.95.2 Linux x86 bad (spaze)
2.95.? Linux x86 bad (mkretz)

Now, it's not surprising that SPARC is ok. The weird entry here is 2.95.4 on
FBSD -- what's special about it so that it doesn't crash? Right now I'd
rephrase Thiago's original comment as "g++ 2.95.x generates invalid code for
KDE 3.3.0 on Linux".
