Easy solution: Remove the offending code.
I guess, that will be implemented desktop wide with proper X extensions at
some point, so the code will be replaced, sooner or later. It would spare you
from this work(not that much I guess..) and people from future
bugs/maintenance this custom code will produce. But perhaps people, and their
dogs, would die if this (wanna-be) transparency and shadows were removed?
