One has to move his other hand to the keyboard ;)

But while I am also in favor for the current KDE solution I would propose to 
give a visible difference to the mouse cursor if dragging with final popup 
and if dragging to explicitly get a move.

Will file this as a wish at bugs.kde.org :)
