Now let's talk about question (2) in my previous message - what to do about 
translations. I don't think we have a real policy there either, and we can 
have - and have had - disputes about the correctness of translations. Suppose 
one day you find this in the .desktop file for locate U:

Name[nl]=Weerzinwekkende Republikeinse Onderdrukkers van de Beschaafde Wereld

I can imagine some fraction of the inhabitants U, if they were told what this 
means in English again, would be offended. Now what? We have the same kind of 
conflict as before - folks in locale U say the translation should properly be 
M and folks in locale N say it should be M'. How will we decide which 
proposal to accept? It gets worse even when it's not a translation per se, 
but a localization:

Name[en_US]=Canuckistan

Again, we need a rule to refer to to be able to resolve these arguments 
without devolving into a big debate on the relative merits of each side.
