I'm a left handed ex-NeXTStep user. If you use a left to right language like
english, it makes much more sense to have the scrollbar on the left hand
side. Otherwise, your scrollbar is positioned at 'maximum ragged right' in
the text. Most text has only a few really long lines, so you lose the
scrollbar for the entire text, as opposed to loosing the end of a small
number of large lines. A bad tradeoff in terms of screen real estate.
Additionally, if you use a right to left language, even if you disagree with
the above opinion about ragged right (or ragged left), I think the scroll bar
'handedness' should be configurable (as in konsole).
