a KDE presentation in LWCE/SF?

Well, having been to LW/SF last year, I'd say that everything is
sufficiently corporate-focused that things need a business focus.
Cool KDE Features are a good idea, for general non-KDE explorers, people who
have used KDE 1 and 2 and managers who like to feel independent and on the
ball. Emphasis on post-3.0 developments. Maybe spread these across 2 or
three A1/A0 posters with screenshots. This would be full colour, emphasising
the desktop, Konqy, file management, current KMail, Kopete, the K Menu and
KControl. Maybe also have a screenshot with the news ticker going (gets
appreciation). Consider some Karamba screenies too.
Programming KDE is a developed topic, and beyond the scope of most people
who will be attending. It is worthwhile doing a poster and dedicating a
machine to this, but really just showcasing KDevelop, Cervisia, DCOP and QT
Designer as key features. Maybe have some 4-sided leaflets that people can
take away in this vein. They won't want to try coding on the spot, anyway.
Kontact/Kolab should be publicised as an Exchange/Outlook replacement,
primarily; that is what will catch people's eyes. Again, a poster and
leaflet would be nice, although space is short, and perhaps it is better to
amalgamate it with the other posters. Leaflets here would be a big win,
however. People know how Evolution and Outlook already work, so showing them
another program that looks the same does little good. Key features, like
LDAP, Secure IMAP and addressbook integration with Kopete are worthwhile,
though. Kitchensync is good here, too. Emphasis on the free :)
Finally, I'd recommend a corporate awareness leaflet. Essentially covering
DCOP, Kiosk mode, KIOSlaves, PDF printing/editing and other
large-organisation-centric features.
If there was the money, I'd hope for about four posters, and two glossy
brochures (Business and Personal). Failing that, posters and leaflets.
Most of all, if Novell, SuSE and Trolltech are there, as last year, have a
talk to them about sending attendees your way, and maybe some additional
funding for advertising, if they can. It's small change for them, but
printed nicely brochures, posters and banners would make a world of
difference. Maybe ask if Lindows are interested. They've also been doing
some promo free downloads for the last few weeks, and have good support for
KDE-Apps and KDE-Look, so they might be interested in support and
cross-promotion.
I'd be happy to help out with design, if you would like.
-Luke
