Hi, guys,

any of you running Knoppix should have a look at this:

     ˙http://klik.berlios.de/

<QUOTE>

   klik is the easiest way to install software on Knoppix, even
   while running from CD. It is inspired by Apple App Folders,
   Java Web Start, and Lindows CNR warehouse, but uses completely
   different technology (server and client side). With a persistent
   home directory, you can even continue to use the software you
   installed after a reboot. Because one software package is always
   exactly just one directory within ~/, you can always delete
   software packages without any problems for other software.

   Advantages for the user:

     * Just klik on a web page to install new software
     * No knowledge required
     * Can install software even if running Knoppix from CD
     * Can easyly delete software packages without potential damage to the system
     * Convenient klik menu lists all installed applications

   Advantages for the developer:

     * Software installers ("klik recipes") easy to create
     * Can use existing .deb or .rpm files from existing repositories
     * Reach new audiences who have never installed software before
     * Standards based server and client technologies
     * Run shell scripts on client machines without explaining the user how to execute

The bloke who develops klik obviously seems to be a very big
KDE fan.

Really, really cool stuff...

Cheers,
Kurt
