Hmm... does not sound very good.

What would be the FHS compatible way?
	/usr/bin/kde4
	/usr/lib/kde4
	/usr/share/kde4
	...
Right?

That might not be too bad, as /usr/bin (historically) had only non-X programs.
So having all (gui) Kde programs in an extra directory (in contrast 
to /usr/bin) would be IMO a benefit too.

The other possibility that sounds nice is: have the "main" KDE installation 
FHS compilant in /usr, and all others in /opt/kdeX. Drawback: if you upgrade
from Kde-3 to Kde-4, you have to uninstall Kde-3 from /usr and reinstall it
in /opt/kde3.
