It turned out to be a nasty race-condition in some non-reentrant arts-methods, 
sometimes things worked othertimes it deadlocked. The "working" 2-week old 
code was just lucky not to trigger it.

I've tested icecast, shoutcast and streaming over samba, and it seems I've
nailed it now.
