Actually it's because of 
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100103&aid=815297&group_id=103

Most messages with text/x-diff attachments which were send with KMail 
(including Michael's message) can be fixed by piping the message with a 
KMail filter for which "Add this filter to the Apply Filter menu" has 
been enabled and all other options have been disabled through the 
attached perl script.
