No Large-File-Support, example: ftp kio slave. Why?

Hello,
the kio ftp slave fails when files get longer than 2GByte and I looked at the 
source to see if that can be changed. But I got surprised when I found out 
that for the QT build QT's LFS is not turned on and that the KDE sources get 
compiled without the options "-D _GNU_SOURCE -D _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64". Can 
somebody tell me why? Large file support is important - think about backups 
or videos.
