Ditto on that. For it to go in admin, it should support at least one non-Linux 
platform KDE supports. Some form of BSD comes to mind, though you need to 
deal with several different FW implementations (ipfilter, ipfw, pf, at the 
very least). You could go for just pf on the BSD side, that gets you OpenBSD 
native and FreeBSD bleeding-edge ports. What FW stuff does Solaris have 
natively?

That said, I think it'd be a major undertaking to cross-platform FW code, 
(unlike adding support for non-cdrecord ATAPI CDR's to most KDE CD burners, 
that's easy), since some basic notions (chains, say) just don't exist in ipfw 
(which is straight-line first-match).
