kbuildsycoca.cpp:
1.1          (dfaure   20-Oct-99):       if (d[i] == "." || d[i] == ".." || 
d[i] == "magic")

And that one was copied from somewhere else but I have no idea from where. 
Probably something under "kiolib" or so. If you have KDE 1.1.2 source around 
you can grep for it ;-)

I think the check for "magic" can be safely removed.
