We are going to authenticate against LDAP with regards to the IMAP and the 
SMTP operations. In addition we use SSL/TLS for the transport security.

Last but not least the clients may choose to use either a PKI solution 
(Sphinx) or a web of trust (GPG) for individual objects incl. emails, 
calendar entries etc.
