Hmmm...

Isn't Qt 3.1 supposed to be a drop-in replacement for Qt 3.0.x?

Because if you only update Qt, you'll get konq crashing and Kmail not 
opening a window, yet not quitting either. And strange debug output:

etc. Does anyone know what they're are about?

No action works, no dcop call works, closing the window with the X 
button works, though. Qt Assistant from 3.0.x also has no problem.
