AFAIK nobody complained about e.g. kdebase/kcontrol/fileshare/Makefile.am
since it uses "-rm -f".
Or to take something older, kdelibs/kdoctools/Makefile.am:
xslt_pure.o: xslt.cpp
-rm -f xslt_pure.cpp
$(LN_S) $(srcdir)/xslt.cpp xslt_pure.cpp
I don't think it breaks anywhere.
