kdebase compile error

My FreeType is installed in /usr/X11/include/freetype and FreeType2 in
/usr/X11/include/freetype2, but the kfontinstaller uses paths like:

#include "freetype/freetype.h"
#include "freetype/cache/ftcimage.h"
#include "freetype/cache/ftcsbits.h"
#include "freetype/ftcache.h"

So while the configure script finds my FT2, the application actually uses
FT1 which fails.

cap at kira:~/src/kde-cvs/kdebase/kcontrol/kfontinst/thumbnail$ freetype-config --cflags
-I/usr/X11R6/include/freetype2

Why isn't this information used?
