Alas, still not working. FYI, my connect slot does

    setAddress(host, port);
    enableRead(true);
    startAsyncConnect();

within AtlantikNetwork, which inherits KExtendedSocket(0, 0, 
KExtendedSocket::inputBufferedSocket)
