The reason that I did not notice it in 5 years probably is that I never ever
use that menu at all.

I see your point but I guess we should try to find out what causes more
confusion, newbies accidentially closing applications or power users missing
a beloved feature. Perhaps we should disable it in CVS for a while and see
how many flame mails come in. Comparing the number of bug reports to the
number of flame mails of course would be anything but representative given
the limited "test set". It still might result in a good guess?

Even standards are revised from time to time.
