I think that it is better to have one big app in kde (not every app requires a 
seperata release cycle!) that has the functionality of 10+ small apps, than 
having 10+ small apps, every one of them use similar code to connect to the 
server/handle msgs , chats and dcc. Imagine that I have an msn account, a icq 
account and a yahoo account, I would not say that it is the most effective 
and comfortable way of working, but if we use one app with plugins, the 
situation is changed and those who use only kit will only enable the aim 
plugin and will not notice a thing.
Which solutions makes it harder on users?

Yes let us remove all IMs from kde, then let us just count lost users... If 
you remove kit and bring kopete, you do lose any of the functionality, do 
you?

Yes and if we find one, than we do not include it because there are plenty of 
small ones :).

I reject the idea of having two similar apps realising different goal, because 
it is for me a waste of code, space, and translators effort, which have to 
translate similar docs, GUI can be roughly translated with a big success, but 
docs can not.
