PATCH: Proxy Authentication Fix (BR# 51735)

Hi,

The following patch fixes bug reported by BR 51735.  We've already fixed this 
bug for non-proxy authentication, but forgot to do the same in the proxy 
authentication code.  Anyways, the attached patch fixes the bug and adjusts 
the code for the non-proxy authentication a tiny bit so that both are in 
sync.
