Peace of mind about binary compatibility!

Please tell me I am just being paranoid ;-)
Is there any automatized test to check binry compatibility between CVS
versions (like doing nm dumps of the libraries)?

I only ask because a friend of mine is tracking CVS and having a few
troubles if he doesn't rebuild all of it.
