Why gdb cannot access memory address?

Trying to fix a bug report, I asked the bug sender to run the app
(kedit in this case), then attach gdb to the running process and
reproduce the crash. The user has compiled KDE from sources (bug
report #41544). THe problem is that the backtrace only contains:

#0  0x40893eb6 in malloc () from /opt/kde/lib/libkdecore.so.4
#1  0x4118c548 in __DTOR_END__ () from /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
Cannot access memory at address 0x1d96b700

Any tip would be appreciated.
