shift-enter is used in e.g. MS Word and many other apps to force a line break 
instead of paragraph break, that might be confusing. Besides, I think most 
apps use ctrl and alt for keyboard actions, because shift only can be used 
for non-alphanumerical keys, which means you need another modifier as well 
for those (the exception being vim ;-)

I'll wait a bit longer, but it seems the consensus leans slightly towards 
ctrl-enter indeed.
