I vote against making the settings global to all sessions.
Currently, I'm using white on black text for normal shells, and I have a
session I created with execute line "ssh anotherhost" which uses a
different schema and icon. That way, I can see quickly in the toolbar
which session is in fact a ssh to another host and when I'm using it, I'm
reminded that I'm not in the local machine because I'm using a tinted green
background instead of the black one.
That's a very useful feature not only for root/non-root shells !
