DTPers on Mac and Windows do this all the time and will expect this 
capability in KDE as well (if the day ever comes that DTP is doable in KDE 
-- and I sure hope it does). Such people often deal with hundreds or even 
thousands of fonts for different jobs and/or different customers. But, of 
course, they don't want all those fonts to be installed at the same time.

In the long run, kfontinst (maybe the standalone version) will have to 
provide some kind of font management capabilities like so many programs on 
those other platforms do. And moving around fonts needs to be one of them, 
although not necessarily moving to /tmp, of course.
