End Of 10 | Combatting e-waste with Linux

I am writing now to announce the End Of 10 campaign, a community project 
from an enthusiastic group of Free & Open Source Software communities 
and Repair Cafe initiatives.

Our website inviting end users to combat the e-waste caused by the end 
of support of Windows 10 on 14 October was officially launched today:

Our goal is to help people use their functioning computers even after 
Windows 10 support ends on 14 October. How? By installing Linux. We're 
building a growing network of local Repair Cafés, Linux User Groups, 
independent computer shops, community events, and more that want to help 
people make the switch. We already have over 100 places and events in 
dozens of countries listed on our website.

Microsoft is nudging users to replace perfectly functional hardware, but 
most machines still have plenty of life left. Our message: With a modern 
Linux distribution and a bit of guidance, anyone can keep their computer 
fast, secure, and out of the landfill.

This is more than just a tech issue — it's an environmental one too. 
When support ends, up to 250 million devices could become e-waste, just 
because of software. That’s a staggering amount of waste we can help 
prevent, simply by helping people to switch to Free & Open Source 
Software. More e-waste also means manufacturing new computers to replace 
the discarded ones, which is perhaps the biggest waste of all: hardware 
production alone can account for over 75% of a device's CO2 emissions 
over its lifespan.
