[discussion] archiving and retiring the Dot

Thank you very much to everyone who gave your support or critique of the 
idea of archiving and retiring the Dot.

 From the replies, it appears there are several community members who 
either support the idea or are neutral about it, and one or two who are 
opposed to it. See the previous replies for specifics.

To move the discussion forward, I have made an issue at Invent to 
discuss details and I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the
