Some libraries are not found without LD_LIBRARY_PATH mangling

Don't you have by any chance the kdesupport libraries and kdelibs 
installed also from distribution packages? You can try an ldd 
path_to_kde4/bin/sopranocmd or ldd path_to_kde4/bin/ksmserver and see 
if all libraries are picked up from your user install dir or not.
