fate of Makefile.am

Hello,

What has been decided about the Makefile.ams? Will they stay, and kept being 
the preferred way of specifying build relationships?
Determining from the latest buildsystem commits there's a script am2bksys for 
converting ams to SConscripts. Hence all the Makefile.ams would stay as is 
(minus Makefile-specific stuff), and the generated SConscripts become the 
Makefile.in/Makefile equivalent.
