[Kde-bindings] Using i18n

please pay attention to my description: the bug is that somewhere, my
unicode string seems to be encoded as utf-8, which is then decoded as ascii.

that’s the bug, not that strings aren’t accepted. (they are now, they are
just treated as ascii!)
