It looks like you need to add this line to your metadata.desktop file:

   X-Plasma-MainScript=code/main.rb

I agree with the change Aaron has made, and prefer doing it this way to 
needing a custom plasma package for Ruby. I don't know if the KDE 4.2 branch 
has been changed too.
