Yes, I'm running 1.8.4. And I'm glad I'm not going mad.
I'll try the patch, but as I'm using RPMS from kde-redhat.org, it won't be 
painless. They have this monolithic kdebindings package that includes java 
python and whatnot, with a single toplevel configure script.
