SVN commit 452329 by ctennis:

This is a pretty major change.  Changed some of the base marshallers to use
C++ templates.  This should carry on into more of the marshallers as well, though
it may need some refactoring after we start getting more in depth.

Works for me so far, but probably need some more unit tests to make sure.

Please comment if there's an issue.
