Hey everyone,
in 2015 Vienna was the host city for the Eurovision Songcontest. In
2018, we would love to host an even better event, KDE Akademy. This mail
serves as a preliminary indication of interest for Vienna to host
Akademy 2018.
While there is already some text/info for a proposal, there wasn't
really time to get detailed information about the most important points:
Location. The best location would be the Technical University of Vienna,
but the local student council just finished their biennial elections and
I was on Holiday for 2 Weeks in May, so it wasn't yet possible to get
into first contact with University officials. Alternative location would
be Technikum Wien, which every year hosts the "Linuxwochen Wien".
We would be a small, but motivated team, consisting of a mix of KDE
people, computer science student council members and other Free Software
People in Vienna. Additionally we have good contacts to the local
hackerspace & a few different meetup groups in Vienna.
I as main organizer, apart from organizing the KDE Vienna meetups,
attending KDE akademies & volunteering at QtCon 2016 have experience in
organizing big international meetups in Vienna for the CouchSurfing
Community.
Dear KDE Board, dear Akademy Team, I know organizing an Akademy is no
small feat. But I think I can speak for the whole KDE AT Community, we
would love to invite all of KDE to the wonderful city of Vienna. And we
want to make Akademy 2018 @ Vienna happen.
You can expect a draft proposal soon, but I hope you work together with
us to check the (financial) feasability & requirements of the location.
Greetings,
Stefan (horushorrendus @ IRC freenode [#akademy, #kde])
