Description:
These are KDE 4 builds for amd64. I will update
them (at least) once a week, and add more modules
as I go.
Here are a series of instructions to get this
going:
- create a user called kde4 with its home at
/home/kde4 (should work with other user names and
directories, but i am not sure..., haven't tried
it)
- unpack the latest kde-9999 and qtcopy-9999
tarballs in /home/kde4.
- download kde-env-vars into
/home/kde4/.kde-env-vars
- add the line "source ~/.kde-env-vars" into
/home/kde4/.bashrc
- start a new failsafe session using your xdm,
gdm or kdm.
- start any window manager you have installed (if
you have kde3.5 already, then start that kwin,
usually /usr/kde/3.5/bin/kwin or /usr/bin/kwin)
this is because there are currently problems
starting kwin (see below for details).
- type startkde and try it out! :)
If you want more info read this...
Currently this consists only of three tarballs:
- kde-9999.year.month.day-number
this contains all the binaries, etc of kde4.
number will be usually 1 (it is the number of
compile in the day). I will try to separate the
modules eventually (i am using kdesvn-build, if
someone knows an easy way to separate the modules,
your knowledge is welcome :)
- kdesvn-9999.year.month.day-number
this contains the kdesvn directory kdesvn-build
creates, it has the kde svn modules, with the
compile system and built files. i don't know why
would this be useful, unless you want to build it
yourself, using my build as a base.
- qtcopy-9999.year.month.day-number
well, this contains the qt copy of the kde svn
repositories, (this only contains the compiled
files, not the sources, the sources are in the
kdesvn file, directory qt-copy).
and then there is the kdesvn-buildrc file i used
to compile this, and a .kde-env-vars file to be
sourced from .bashrc and .xsession. (just like the
docs of kdesvn-build say).
currently i don't know how to make .xsession start
my kde4. i have to get a terminal, and type
startkde to start it. do someone know how to do
that?
NOTE: currently (as of build 07.06.30-2) kwin does
not work, due to a symbol error (i will post it
here when i check it again), so you will need to
start another window manager before you type
startkde if you don't want plasma to be on top of
everything and not let you do anything (besides
playing around with the two plasmoids installed).
