Description:
 ReMoot - the pseudo-universal remote control
wrapper

ReMoot is written in perl and is a command wrapper
for a number of media
programs running on GNU/Linux systems and possibly
other *nix systems as
well.

Normally this kind of remote only works with one
app at the time, but ReMoot 
can control all of the apps listed below. By
mapping your multimedia keyboard to remoot you can
control ALL of these apps with the same keys.
Supported programs:

 aqualung

 exaile
 juk
 kaffeine
 kmplayer
 kscd
 listen
 mplayer
 noatun
 quodlibet
 rhythmbox
 totem
 vlc
 xine
 xmms

The ReMoot package now consists of three
executables:

- i)    "remoot", which is a command-line program
that is typically executed either in a shell or
using quick key-bindings

- ii)   "remoot-remote", which is a simple proof
of concept graphical frontend to remoot written in
Tk. 

- iii) "Rewww00t", which is a web interface that
turns your gadgets like Palm pilots or the Nokia
N800 into a remote for your multimedia apps using
any web browser. This package is written in Ruby.

As of version 0.4, remoot handles multiple running
and supported apps in a much improved way by
asking ALSA and DCOP what is going on and tries to
"Do the Right Thing"TM. Basically, it only passes
commands to paused apps if there are no playing
apps and to stopped apps if there are no playing
or paused ones.  A typical case:

If you watch a movie on high volume in Kaffeine
and your phone rings, you will press playpause to
pause Kaffeine. In this new version your old
forgotten backgrounded Amarok session will not
start playing when this happens. Next time you
press playpause it depends on the state you had
put Amarok in: if Amarok was just paused, it and
and your paused Kaffeine will start playing; if
Amarok was really stopped, only Kaffeine will
start.

This is a feature you can not live without :-)

HINTS

remoot plays REALLY nice with key-mapping programs
like LinEAK and Keytouch. See the README for
details.

PLANNED FEATURES
----------------

We are working on a new version of Rewww00t that
uses buttons with icons instead of just links.
However, as you can see on the screenshot we are
not artists. Therefor we will now open an

ARTWORK CONTEST!!

Send us your much nicer artwork in any commonly
supported image format so that we can distribute
it together with the Rewww00t. There should be one
image for each button (prev, play/pause, next,
stop, volup, mut, voldown) and images for a frame.
The contest is open until the end of August. The
winner receives nothing more or less than eternal
glory and a guaranteed seat at the table in
Valhalla!! Spread the word!
