My concern is it would slow down processing. The existing option is mainly
there as debugging aid (since the wav files are being created anyway) and for
making occasional sample outputs.
It might be possible to write a separate prog to receive dcop events emitted
by kttsd to process the .wav files and concatenate into mp3 or ogg. If I'm
not mistaken mpg123 is a prog that can do the conversion and sox can
cantenate.
Another possibility is to use the Command plugin. Set up a command that pipes
the output of Festival through a process that concatenates each wav file and
then returns the wav file back to kttsd.
