I started a project called Proklam (you can find what I did, very little, in
kdenonbeta/proklam).
The goal of this project is to provide the framework for speech synths syst=
em
into KDE.
I posted in kde-devel@kde.org about the architecture of the project if you'=
re
intrested in what's under the hood, for developers willing to use it all th=
ey
have to do is use a class called KSpeech (not even started yet).
I hope to have Proklam finished in about two monthes (it will be ready to go
out with KDE 3.2 I think).
BTW, I won't make a speech synth, this will be an interface to Festival,
=46reeTTS, maybe ViaVoice, etc, etc... (plug in based).
But my goal is to turn in a year of less, KDE into a very good desktop for =
the
blind people, or with low vision or people suffering of dyslexia and I don't
know a lot of other people how can benefit from this.
I think that it will be usefull for people without disabilities (I have
already configured KMail to speek to me when I recive important mails, and =
he
says who did it come from).
I have to read and to learn about how the desktop should behave for this ki=
nd
of people and I see that there are a lot of tasks that can't be performed
without a mouse, so, it would be a really hard task and I want to start as
soon as posible with the planning of the modifications needed for KDE to
smoothly integrate with the speech synth... so... what should I do then ?
where should I start ? anyone willing to help me ? (I'm not asking for codi=
ng
help, I can code Proklam by myself but the modifications to KDE go beyond
what I know).
Well, I'm just telling you what I'm doing, what I plan to do and asking for
any help since I don't know where to start.
Thank you.

PS: I think this is a great oportunity because this system are not cheap and
this kind of people won't argue about runnining games, or a non suported
printed so this market is almost totally ours and taking on acount that 75%
of blind people don't have a job, offering them a free solution would be
great.
PS: I would like to set up a page for Proklam to centrilize the effors,
offering news, the architecture documents and other type of documents, that
can help me getting support of institutions helping this people, would it be
posible to have proklam.kde.org or something like that ?
