Well, the idea was to "select" the elements and highlight them. I can see why
the current implementation is confusing. 
One solution would be to change the style of the highlighted elements to make
them more "highlightisch". 
Or invert just the selection. But i think this would make the gradients look
weird.
Anyway, it would be nice to improve the situation.
