main menu icons do not show in gcompris

My name is John Emmanuel and I am a computer teacher.
In one out of ten computers we use in our computer lab the main menu icons
on the top of the screen disappeared.  I uninstalled the program and
reinstalled it at least ten times but the problem persists.
Is there a keyboard shortcut or possibly another way to make these icons
reappear so the students that sit in front of the computer can use the
program?
