I (well, actually my kids) run GCompris on a Pentium MMX and Pentium
II, as well as an OldWorld Mac under GNU/Linux.  Encoding the sound
files in Ogg Vorbis will cause significant slowdown.

I suspect that many users are in this situation, particularly in the
poor countries.
