*** Hi Bruno,
(thanks for the ldd) Well we're a school district with approx 15,000
students (approx 60 elementary & 12 high schools). For years we were/are
using a
Windows/Novell combination at all our locations. Because of budget
constraints and Microsoft's licensing costs I was quite happy with the IT
Manager's decision to pilot Linux not only as a File Server (Samba) but on
the desktop as well. In September we piloted the system at two
elementary schools
and it was a success. The Kids loved it (actually they loved
Tux), teachers liked it as well and the two pilot projects graduated to
permanent installations. The labs are based on the LTSP.org project which
I'm sure you are aware of. Well it's worked so well that the decision was
made that in three years ALL schools will be converted to Linux (Even in
the high schools where they will probably be dual boot Linux/Windows but
the Novell servers will be replaced with Samba). Gcompris is a VERY
important element in our success. The teacher's think it's great and it's
one of the few programs designed for the grade 1-3 age groups. As for
suggestions I'll ask some of the teachers for input but I think if you
just keep doing what you're doing (adding boards) that will be perfect. I
had some problems with gcompris 0.96 locking up but I believe it was
mainly due to ogg123. My version of vorbis would core dump when it tried
to play a .ogg file so I upgraded it as well as upgraded to Gcompris
1.00Pre3. I'll send you the output of "gdb -c core gcompris" if it
re-occurs frequently but I believe the problem was with my vorbis
version. Anyways thank-you very much for volunteering your time and
skills, it has made a huge difference. For more info on our school
district as well as our long term plans:

Thanks again :)
