and the /tmp on the desktop host do not agree.

>> Error: Aborting session with 'Could not create server lock file:
>> /tmp/.X1002-lock'.

It's a permission problem. the frontier allocates a display number
because it is available but the files exist on the desktop host. The
user session fails because the user does not have permision to delete
the files.

frontier does this to find an available display

 while [ -e /tmp/.X$SESS_DISPLAY-lock -o -e "/tmp/.nX$SESS_DISPLAY-lock" ]
                       do
                               let SESS_DISPLAY=$SESS_DISPLAY+1
                       done

But it is possilbe that the tmp display files exist on the desktop
host. (Perhaps caused when a session wasn't opened or closed
correctly.)

I have worked around this (it's been working fine for 4 months), by
doing this instead.

SESS_DISPLAY=`getent passwd $USER|cut -f 3 -d :`
let AGENT_DISPLAY=$SESS_DISPLAY+6000

The user will always have the same display number. That means the user
will always have permision to delete tmp files on the the desktop host
if they exist.

Now SESS_DISPLAY_LIMIT and DISPLAY_BASE don't get processed but that
isn't a problem for me.

Cheers.
Chris.
