But that doesn't tell you that a gnome session will start correctly
for that user.   If you can't test a local console, can you do
something like
Xnest :1 -query localhost in your ssh session?    I'm not sure if
fedora still runs xcmcp or if it doesn't, what you do instead to get a
graphic login to start.
