I was experiencing this problem on openSUSE 11.3 with the NoMachine NX node 
(nxnode-3.4.0-13.x86_64 and nxnode-3.4.0-14.x86_64).  Downgrading to 
nxnode-3.4.0-11.x86_64 solved the problem.
